Pretend Store
2013

An experimental pop-up in Charleston, South Carolina tested the limits of “democratic design” by fitting out a storefront with cardboard building blocks and crocheted joinery and turning it over to local enterprises for two, three and four-day occupancies. Each tenant—a taxidermist, an architect, a toy manufacturer, an art non-profit—then designed and built its ideal work environment utilizing the basic elements provided.  Each iteration was documented.
